It did not take much to convince me that I wanted to start on a Paleo diet. With all the things I’d been reading from sites, listening on podcast and watching on youtube about the detrimental effects of manufactured food, and the lies we’ve all been told about the food pyramid, it only took me a few days to begin Paleo…not quite overnight, but almost.
So today is my first day…yes it’s a Tuesday, but Monday here was a public holiday in Australia, so I thought for just one last day, I might enjoy a bit of the kind of food, I will hopefully only rarely touch in the future!
I hold my weight very well…with a t-shirt on. At 6 foot, 4 inches I am by no means overweight, but once I begin to remove my clothes at the beach or for…’whatever’, the rolls and wobbles and remnants of a once chubby adolescent and young adult are revealed….I wanna get rid of this stuff once and for all!
About 4 years ago I went through a great bit of my life where I dropped from a chubby 110kgs to a much leaner and happier 95kgs in 8 weeks. I gained confidence almost overnight and think I really grew up. Looking back on this time, although I was doing a huge amount of exercise, what I was eating was probably pretty close to a paleo diet!
Since that time, I’ve gone on to achieve things I’d never imagined I would do. In 2011, after just 9 months in the odd little sport of dragon boating, I represented Australia as a team member at the World Championships in the US. I amazed myself to get to this, but through all my training leading up to the event, up to 12 sessions of exercise a week, I managed to keep a little gut. This probably had a lot to do with the fact that I did not restrict myself from large amount of carbohydrates in my diet.
Well I’m no longer doing that kind of training, I’ve lost a fair bit of muscle, and still maintained my tummy! So today, to change all that, to get back into shape, to get into even better shape and lose my gut once and for all, I’m going to start on a paleo diet for 30 days. For the results, I am not interested in my weight, only the way that I look and feel.
Following is an account of my fist day, so the diet might not be perfect yet, but I’m giving it a good go. I’ve been reading the blogs, and listening to podcasts of Mark Sisson, DietDoctor, Robb Wolf, and Relentless Roger and the Caveman Doctor, which promote a combo of pure paleo and HFLC diet, so the diary below is based on that info…
